Fungal plant pathogens in Portugal: Alternaria dauci.
نویسندگان
چکیده
A leaf blight of carrot (Daucus carota) caused by Alternaria dauci was found in Alentejo (Ourique, Portugal). Morphological characteristics of the fungus are described.

Partial Resistance of Carrot to Alternaria dauci Correlates with In Vitro Cultured Carrot Cell Resistance to Fungal Exudates
Although different mechanisms have been proposed in the recent years, plant pathogen partial resistance is still poorly understood. Components of the chemical warfare, including the production of plant defense compounds and plant resistance to pathogen-produced toxins, are likely to play a role. Toxins are indeed recognized as important determinants of pathogenicity in necrotrophic fungi. Parti...
متن کاملHyperspectral and Thermal Imaging of Oilseed Rape (Brassica napus) Response to Fungal Species of the Genus Alternaria
In this paper, thermal (8-13 µm) and hyperspectral imaging in visible and near infrared (VNIR) and short wavelength infrared (SWIR) ranges were used to elaborate a method of early detection of biotic stresses caused by fungal species belonging to the genus Alternaria that were host (Alternaria alternata, Alternaria brassicae, and Alternaria brassicicola) and non-host (Alternaria dauci) pathogen...
متن کاملBlack spot diseases in carrot
An important problem in organic carrot production in the Netherlands is the occurrence of black spots during storage. Several different fungal pathogens cause similar symptoms, which are collectively known as black spot diseases. We identified Alternaria radicina, A. dauci and Rhexocercosporidium carotae (syn. Acrothecium carotae) as the most prevalent black spot pathogens. We developed laborat...
متن کاملFitness effects of Alternaria dauci on wild carrot in The Netherlands.
In a field experiment with a susceptible population of annual wild carrot (Daucus carota) from Iran, artificial inoculations with the fungal pathogen A. dauci led to a strong and very significant increase of the diseased leaf area. The pathogen caused a very significant decrease in fecundity and seed survival of the host. This considerable fitness reduction by A. dauci would suggest that introg...
متن کاملField evaluation of carrot cultivars for susceptibility to fungal leaf blight diseases in New York
Carrot cultivars grown in New York were evaluated for susceptibility to the fungal leaf blight pathogens Alternaria dauci (1999) and Cercospora carotae (2000–03) in an experimental field under continuous carrot cultivation since 1996. Replicated plots were established in a randomized complete block design. Plants were rated for disease incidence and severity at regular intervals. Cultivar susce...
